Quelm didn't begin in a boardroom. It began in two homes, thousands of miles apart, when caregiving stopped being an idea and became our lives.

For one of us, it was a phone call. A mother on the East Coast, caring for her own mother day after day, and you could hear the exhaustion before she said a word. Everyone asked how
grandma was doing. Almost no one asked, "But how are you?"
 

For the other, it was a diagnosis: late-stage Alzheimer's, and an unexpected guardianship. The hardest part wasn't the caregiving itself, it was trying to remember everything caregiving required. So she built a simple journal to track: water intake, medications, moods; and for the first time in months, she felt confident instead of overwhelmed. Then came the words that changed everything: "This shouldn't be on paper. This should be an app."

Caregivers are the backbone of our healthcare system, saving billions each year while quietly preserving the dignity of the people they love. Yet the tools that exist are built around caregivers, not for them. They track the care recipient's records and finances, but miss the human doing the work: the emotional weight, the vigilance, the need to feel seen.

We learned the hard way that no one truly understands caregiving until it's their turn, and that the most powerful thing you can say to a caregiver isn't "you're doing great," but "I see how hard this is, and I am here." That lesson lives in everything we've built.
